A city on a hill at night is impossible to miss. That’s the picture Jesus gives in Matthew 5:14, and it’s the lens I use today to talk about Christian identity, courage, and everyday discipleship. Light isn’t loud, but it is bold. It guides, it comforts, and it reminds people they’re not alone in the dark.

I unpack what it means that Jesus doesn’t say “try to be the light” but “you are the light.” That shift moves us away from perfection and into presence. Whether you’re in a classroom, a boardroom, at home, or walking your neighborhood, your life can shine with the love, truth, and hope of Christ without turning every moment into a speech.

You’ll also get practical Christian living steps you can use right away: staying connected to the source through prayer, worship, and Bible reading, refusing to hide your faith just to fit in, and learning to shine consistently even when you feel overlooked. If you’ve been thinking, “I don’t have that much light,” remember this: even the smallest light can break through the deepest darkness, and your steady presence may be what points someone toward Jesus.

If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review so more people can find the show. What’s one place you feel called to shine today?

Being the light of the world. Matthew chapter 5, verse 14. Ye are the light of the world, a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Welcome to day 86 of faith for every day. Today we are picking up right where we left off. You are not just salt, you are also light. In Matthew chapter 5, verse 14, Jesus says, Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. That is a powerful image, is it not? Think of a city on a hill at night. You cannot miss it. It shines, it guides, it gives people hope that they are not alone in the dark. That is what you are meant to be. You see, light is not loud, but it is bold. It does not have to force its way in. That is how our faith should work. Whether you are in a classroom, the boardroom, or at home, or even just walking through your neighborhood, your presence should shine with love, truth, and hope of Christ. And it is not about being perfect, it is about being present, being available, and being consistent. Jesus does not say try to be the light. He says, You are the light. That means your identity is in him. So, how do we actually live out that light? Here are some practical examples. Staying connected to the source. A light bulb does not shine unless it is plugged in. Staying plugged into God through prayer, worship, and his word. Also, do not hide your light. It is easy to dim your faith to avoid judgment or to fit in. But remember, light has a purpose. It is meant to be seen. You do not have to preach a sermon. Sometimes just showing grace, being patient, or helping someone in need is shining your light. Shining consistently. Life does not flicker just because it is cloudy outside. Even on a tough day, even when you feel unnoticed, keep shining. You may not see it, but someone else does. And if you are thinking, but I don't feel like I have that much light. Remember this. Even the smallest light can break through the deepest darkness. Your presence could be the very thing that leads someone to Jesus. Thank you very much for joining me today on day 86 of faith for every day. As you step into the world today, shine your light. Not because you have it all together, but because Christ is in you, and that is more than enough. Until next time, stay bright, stay grounded, and keep pointing others toward the light of the world, which is Jesus Christ. Thank you very much for listening.
