Proverbs 19:17 contains one of the most bracing ideas in the Bible about generosity: when we show pity to the poor, God receives it as if it were given to Him. That single verse changes the emotional weight of giving. Instead of feeling pressured to fix everything, we can step into a steady, grounded kind of compassion where every faithful act counts, even the small ones no one applauds.

We talk through the reality that needs are everywhere, from financial struggle and hunger to lack of shelter and deep loneliness. When you see enough of it, it’s easy to shut down or assume your contribution won’t matter. We push back on that lie and focus on what God actually asks of us: respond where you are with what you have. Sometimes that’s money. Sometimes it’s time, a ride, a meal, a patient conversation, or the willingness to truly listen without making assumptions.

You’ll hear practical, actionable ways to care for the poor and needy in your community: giving generously and wisely, serving through local ministries and charities, learning to listen with humility, and helping people grow through skills, work, and encouragement. We also keep prayer at the center, because God is the provider and He often chooses to meet needs through ordinary people who say yes. We end with the promise that God does not forget what you give, and that His repayment can look like peace, joy, and the quiet confidence of walking in His will.

If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find simple, practical faith in action. What’s one way you can show compassion today?

Caring for the poor and needy Proverbs chapter nineteen verse seventeen He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord, and that which he had given will he pay him again. Proverbs chapter nineteen verse seventeen Welcome to Day 126 of Faith for Everyday. Today we are focusing on something very close to God's heart, caring for the poor and needy. Proverbs chapter 19, verse 17 says, He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord, and that which he had given will he pay him again. That is a powerful truth. When you give to someone in need, God receives it as if you gave it directly to him, and he does not forget it. We live in a world where needs are everywhere, financial struggle, hunger, lack of shelter, loneliness, and so much more. It is easy to feel overwhelmed, but God does not ask you to fix everything. He calls you to respond where you are with what you have. Sometimes that means giving money, other times it means giving your time, compassion, or simply listening. Each act of kindness matters a lot. Here are a few practical ways to act and care for the poor and needy in your life and community. Give generously and wisely. Whether you support a local shelter, bring food to a neighbor, or help struggling friends. Your giving is never wasted. Volunteer your time. Many ministries and charities need helping hands. A few hours of work a week can make a lasting impact. Listen and learn. Sometimes people just need to be heard. Do not assume. Listen with love and humility. Teach and encourage. Helping someone develop skills, find work, or grow in confidence is another way of lifting them out of need. Pray for and with the needy. Never underestimate the power of prayer to bring comfort, provision, and hope. God is a provider, but he often works through people like you and me to meet need. When you care for the poor, you reflect the heart of Jesus, who never turned away from the hurt or the broken. And here is the beautiful part. God promises to repay you. Maybe not always in money or possession, but in peace, joy, and the knowledge that you are walking in His will. Thank you very much for joining me today for day 126 of faith for every day. Look around you. Someone near you may be praying for a miracle, and God may want to send it through you. Be generous, be compassionate, be the hand and the feet of Christ. Until next time, keep loving, keep living your faith in action. Thank you very much for listening.
