Hello and welcome to day 163 of faith for every day. Today we are reflecting on something that feels countercultural in our busy, noisy, overconnected world. The beauty of a quiet and simple life. In 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 verse 11, Paul gives believers a very specific and gentle instruction. Study to be quiet and to do your own business and to work with your own hands. In other words, live a peaceful life. Focus on what God has given you to do. Be diligent and stay faithful in your own lane.
The Pressure To Be Seen
You know, we live in a time where everyone is trying to be noticed. Social media constantly invites us to share, compare, and promote the pressure to be seen, to be impressive, to always be doing something extraordinary. It can be exhausting. And it can easily pull our hearts away from the quiet contentment God offers. But scripture reminds us that a quiet life is not a lesser life. In fact, it is a powerful testimony. When Paul tells us to study to be quiet, he is talking about a deliberate effort. Peace does not always come naturally. It takes intentionality to be quiet, your spirit, to guard your words, to focus on your purpose without being distracted by what others are doing. Doing your own business means taking care of the responsibilities God has placed in your hand. That means it might be your work, your family, your ministry, your home. It does not need to be flashy or loud, it just needs to be faithful. And working with your own hands, that is a call to diligence.
