Rejoicing while you’re hurting sounds like a contradiction, but Romans 5:3-4 lays out a different way to see suffering: tribulation can produce something in you that comfort never will. We sit with Paul’s words and ask the honest question most of us feel in hard seasons, how can anyone “glory in tribulation” when life is heavy? The answer is not denying pain or acting like hardship is fun. It’s learning to rejoice in the purpose God is working beneath the surface.

We walk step by step through the spiritual growth process Paul describes: tribulation produces patience (endurance), endurance shapes experience (proven character and maturity), and that lived experience gives birth to hope. This is Christian hope in suffering that goes beyond positive thinking. It’s a confident expectation built on memory, God was faithful back then, so He will be faithful again. If you need practical encouragement for a difficult season, this is a short, focused reset for your faith.

We also name the realities many people are facing right now: sickness, grief, financial struggle, broken relationships, and sheer weariness. If rejoicing feels far away, you’re not alone. The invitation here is simple and strong: don’t despise your struggle, because God is at work, and He is building something in you that will last.

Scripture And Opening

Rejoicing in tribulation Romans chapter 5 verse 3 to 4 And not only so, but we glory in tribulation also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience and patience experience and experience hope. Romans chapter 5 verse 3 to 4 Hello and welcome to day 166 of Faith for Every Day.

Rejoicing With Purpose In Pain

Today we are looking at a powerful and challenging call in Scripture to rejoice in tribulation. That is not something we hear very often, is it? Romans chapter 5, verse 3 to 4 says, And not only so, but we glory in tribulation also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience, and patience experience and experience hope. This is one of those passages that goes against how we normally think. How can we glory or rejoice in hard times? Paul is not saying we should enjoy pain for pain's sake. What he is teaching us is that when we walk through difficult seasons, something deep and lasting is happening within us. God is doing a work beneath the surface that we may not see at first.

Tribulation Produces Patience

Tribulation produces patience. That means that when life presses in, we feel the weight of challenges. God uses those moments to teach us endurance. We learn to keep going even when things do not change as quickly as we hope.

Patience Grows Experience

And patience leads to experience. This is not just about time passing, it is about growth. We come through those struggles with a deeper understanding of who God is. We gain wisdom, we gain strength, and we gain spiritual maturity. We realize that God was faithful back then and he will be faithful again.

Experience Leads To Hope

Then comes hope. Not just wishful thinking, but confident expectation. The kind of hope that says, God is with me now, just like he was with me then. I can face tomorrow because I have seen his hand in me yesterday.

Encouragement For Today’s Struggles

You may be in a place today when life feels like a battle. You might be facing sickness, grief, financial struggle, broken relationships, or just a sense of weariness. And the idea of rejoicing might feel far off. But remember this: you are not rejoicing in the pain itself. You are rejoicing in the purpose. You are rejoicing in the fact that God is using what you are going through to shape something beautiful in you, something eternal, something that cannot be taken away. You are growing stronger, you are becoming more rooted in Christ. You are learning to hope, not in the world, but in the one who holds the world together. So today, I want to encourage you, do not despise your struggle. Let it remind you that even in suffering, you are not alone. God is at work and he is not finished with you yet. Take a moment to reflect on how he has brought you through the past trials, and let that history of his faithfulness fill your heart with hope that is ahead.

Final Reminder God Is Faithful

Thank you very much for joining me for day 166 of faith for every day, whatever you are facing. Know that God is building something in you that will last. Rejoice, not because life is easy, but because God is faithful. Keep walking, keep growing, and hold on to that hope. Thank you very much for listening.
